I am a bookkeeper, I do 99% of my client's books on Sage Business Cloud Accounting.
90% of my clients are small (SMME) companies and does not require extremely complex software to run their businesses. Sage Accounting offers them everything they need in order to operate their business efficiently. It is user friendly and not difficult even for my clients to understand if I am unavailable for the day and they need to get the job done ASAP.
  • Customer Documents and Emails sent to customers look professional
  • Sage Accounting customer service is very good and someone always gets back to you
  • The software is easy to navigate and understand
  • Sage Accounting banking is straight forward, easy and it works well
  • Processing VAT is a breeze and convenient
  • Bank Recons are easy and I love it however, you can't find any record on Sage Accounting that you actually did the recon and can download a report afterwards as proof unless you download immediately.
  • The amount of email addresses that you can add to your customers/suppliers are only 100 characters, you can add additional contacts but then they don't receive statements and when you send an invoice, you have to go and specifically select them to be included which sometimes you may forget. There could maybe be 2 places to add emails, one for statements and one for invoices as a lot of companies don't want their statements sent to the same people that get the invoices, if this makes any sense.
  • You can only get a view of your top 10 clients, it would be nice to be able to get a report that has all your clients on but in order of high to low of how much they spend (every month or yearly etc.)
Sage Accounting is well suited for most SMME's especially companies with services, companies that does stock as well however there is a limit, depends on what you need for eg. if you need more of a CRM, sending reminders, assigning job, creating job cards from the quote with all the items that form that service, then Sage Accounting is a bit limited in that regards.

I recommend Sage to all my clients because it’s so easy to use and works very well with many other Apps. It’s easy to correct an error posting and has great reporting functions.
  • They have excellent customer service. Always answer the phone and offer support until problem resolved.
  • There is a cloud based function that is idea for remote working.
  • Lots of online tutorials.
  • I find it difficult to record journals in cloud accounting. Maybe I just don’t have the knowledge.
  • It’s important to export all unrecorded sync bank transactions to Excel to send to clients to explain the payment receipts before being posted. This function is not available on the cloud and makes life harder, having to call out the transactions to clients over the phone.
It works great with the AutoEntry App. It is easy to make changes after posting.

I run a one-person Limited Company and I was always concerned about being able to keep on top of my accounts, record keeping, invoicing and so on. This became a real concern when MTD (Making Tax Digital) became a requirement as I had to have software for submitting VAT (Value-added tax) returns, and I didn't know which platform to use. Having read the reviews, I chose Sage Accounting and I've found it to be really easy to use and has helped streamline my processes and takes less time that what I was doing before.

I only need the basic Accounting package and it does everything I need. My accountant can access my records, so they like it as well.
  • Invoicing
  • VAT returns
  • Cash flow
  • Profit and Loss statements
  • Reporting - I'd like to be able to compare YTD vs LYTD
  • Reconciling bank accounts - I find this quite tricky
I find being able to generate invoices that are of a required professional standard template that my clients like. Being able to invoice quickly and keep track of when invoices are paid, its been useful getting reminders on the occasions when invoices have gone overdue to enable me to track payments.

  • Reporting, custom reports not simple
  • Switching from one company to the next
Ease of use, is so important
The ability to import via CSV, to avoid mistakes and to save time

I use Sage Accounting to manage my business finances. I have been using this for around 2 years, prior to this I had been keeping track with spreadsheets, but as the business grew and regulation was brought in I needed to move to something more suitable. Having tried an alternative, I landed on Sage as I found it very easy to get myself onboarded. I had support from the ever-helpful customer service team for answering the question, but honestly, I did not need them as it was pretty intuitive. I usually have to use it a few times a month to carry out key tasks of mine, and it is always a doddle. VAT returns are a breeze, and I get a pretty helpful view of the financial health of my business. I would certainly recommend the product to other small businesses that are starting. It has saved me so much time and heartache. As my business grows, there are additional tools that I can add, but for the moment, what I have is perfect for my needs!
  • Bank Reconciliations.
  • VAT returns.
  • Cash flow.
  • General management of accounts.
  • Speed could be a bit better, feel that loading bank transactions takes a while.
  • Sometimes, I get a bit confused by the order in which the bank transactions are presented, especially if I am looking to do manual reconciliations.
  • Logging onto the website can be a tad confusing. A number of products to pick from, and in the early days, I was unsure of what I should be logging into.
VAT returns are so simple to do. Just a click of a button and it produces a report for the period in concern. Submitting the return is then just a single click. The only thing I wish it would do is remind me when my VAT submissions are coming up so that I can avoid penalties.

We use Sage Accounting for all our financial processing at our organisation. It allows us to create and easily send out sales invoices to customers and record purchase invoices. The bank feed tool allows us to easily reconcile all our transactions. The quick create tool is a really useful feature to quickly create an invoice or set up a supplier. Having the cash flow forecast dashboard on the front page makes it so easy to monitor our cash flow position right when we log on.
  • HMRC Making Tax Digital direct calculation and submission
  • Super easy to set up new customers and new suppliers
  • Bank feed tool to reconcile transactions
  • Creating payment files to submit to the bank
  • Correcting transactions can be a bit clunky and hard to pin down
  • No full year end rollover process, have to do it manually
Sage Accounting is well suited to a small to medium business that produces a regular number of invoices. As a medium-sized conference centre, Sage Accounting is really well suited to our needs as we need to create and email out invoices to customers on a regular basis. Most invoices include a number of different items that can easily be assigned to different nominal codes and different VAT codes. The functionality can calculate amounts based on price and quantity, and then the invoice can be directly emailed to the customer.

Sage Accounting is used daily for the Charity/Business I work for. From day-to-day purchasing entries, Invoicing and financial reporting. All our purchase receipts are now stored electronically in Sage Accounting (no more searching through filing cabinets) or having the auditors send me a list of receipts they want to see. Sales receipts look professional and recurring invoices can be sent automatically, making life so much easier. Using Bank feeds is another great time saver too.
  • Storing purchase receipts with the purchase entries.
  • Recurring invoices.
  • Professional looking invoices.
  • Reporting.
  • Live Bank Feeds
  • Tieing off year end figures, to start a new financial year.
  • Sage and AutoEntry to transfer data to correctly - Invoice box!
  • Ability to use multiple letterheads and banking information on receipts.
  • Easier way of entering and recording of Assets for reporting
Sage accounting is well suited to day-to-day invoicing, recording of purchases and storing of receipts. Excellent at bank reconciliations and reporting. Great for recurring invoicing and the monitoring and reminding of debtors.
Not found anything Sage does not do well.

As an EME, Sage ensures that legally I have everything, I am able to use both the Accounting and Payroll solutions know all my SARS requirements are correct and compliant.<br>All our invoicing runs on the 1st and it is so easy to track available cash and profits. Payroll is quick and painless and I am able to submit my UIF direct from the platform. SARS declarations are simplified as all my data is calculated from the Sage platforms.<br>The Dashboard allows me to control the important aspects of my business enabling me to be proactive and address any issues before they can negatively impact my business.<br>It is user friendly and reliable. I would be lost without Sage.
  • Profit and Loss reporting
  • Invoicing, recurring invoicing
  • Banking
  • Covers all my needs so nothing
Every part of Sage interacts to give a succinct report of your business health. This is extremely important as an Entrepreneur as I do not have time to worry where and what is happening with my business on the financial side. However when needed the drill down facility is quick and easy. My accountant can work on the platform remotely and the auditors have everything at the click of a button.

Sage Accounting cloud software managed the company's financial books and records. The software suited very well a small business whom needed to keep accurate records of its finances to maintain compliance with the Companies Act. It also served to maintain accurate records to support asset, liability, equity, income and expense record which supported the company's financial performance. The software had facility for multiple users with different levels of access, and also provided useful reports and dashboards which could be scrutinised by management.
  • Customer and supplier ledger data review is easily done in comparison in particular to Xero. Ledger types are separated rather than combined as 'contacts'.
  • The format of the data presented is clear, both on screen and reporting in multiple formats
  • MTD facility to operate VAT reporting in line with HMRC requirements
  • Bank reconciliation is easily performed, using the 'bank feed' function
  • Automated processes are brilliant, such as uploading purchase invoices or expenses
  • Menu structure is straightforward, and easy for users to navigate
  • Adding notes to customer and supplier ledgers with regards communications
  • Making it easier to change from one VAT scheme to another, when company's grow and need to move away from cash accounting
  • Users creating their own reports
Sage Accounting is well suited to small business who do not have high volumes of data, and chart of accounts are fairly simplistic in their structure. Different versions of Sage Accounting products should be considered when these criteria become relevant. Sage Accounting is also well suited for businesses who operate solely in the cloud.

We use Sage Accounting all day every day! It is super efficient for us and our clients to collate the data and the bank feeds which typically is an issue at year end, with live data it allows us to work in year and clients aren't faced with any shocking surprises. It is also really user-friendly so we are always recommending it.
  • How up to date the live bank feed is
  • Navigation around the website
  • Customer service
  • Bank feed matches to be more accurate
Clients have significantly improved their understanding of their accounts and businesses due to Sage Accounting's comparative trial balance report. This allows clients to choose the period they want to compare and see various ratios which helps them to identify the biggest costs and where they're spending their money! This has allowed clients to be more prepared to save for taxes.

Sage Accounting is used as the full accounting suite for our day to day accounting. this encaptures, Bank, Suppliers and Customers.

The bank feed ensures reconciling the bank and having that confidence is very easy and allows more time then to look at the value adding areas of accountancy.

Sage Accounting is constantly updating with new features and reports which help to take a step back from a transactional level and allow a more analytical approach. This is helped further by Sage Accounting making the day to day transactions quick and efficient to post.

There is the ability to run reports as CSV files and then you can manipulate these however you wish, I use this function for the management accounts by exporting the trial balance, feeding this into my excel file and then this auto populates the accounts.
  • Bank Feeds - Seamless integration with bank to ensure no keying of transactions and thus less scope for error.
  • Bank Reconciliations - Due to the bank feeds these are quick and easy.
  • Dashboards - Easy to see at a glance who is owed and indeed who owes us. These are regularly updated and can be tailored to ensure you're seeing what is most important to you.
  • Always room for improvement on reporting
  • Further integration and simpler intergration with bank feeds. Some banks work very easily and simply, but others can be more complicated.
Sage Accounting is good for small to medium sized businesses. It's more focused on being simple to use and intuitive for business owners than for example Sage Line 50. I'd say it works well for businesses that don't necessarily have the accounting knowledge and experience that I'd say is essential to have from Sage Line 50.

It's great for sole-traders and small limited companies.

All accounting activities are through Sage Accounting, including purchases, sales VAT returns, Payroll. My Accountants have access as well, to speed up Annual Accounting and Audits. Only real business problem is to ensure accurate records for our Accounts, HMRC returns and Annual reporting requirements. All of which Sage Accounting makes simplier and gives me confidence that I am doing all that I should as accurately as possible. Having my Accountants use the same software, reduces the cost of my bill at the end of the year, I can also quickly seek advice from them when I have any issues that need correcting. Its a great tool to have.
  • VAT Return
  • Easy to use
  • Links me with Accountants
  • Customer Support
  • Feels like there are lots of 'packages' with different logins
  • One Single Portal to access everything
Linking me up with external Accountants is great. The Quarterly VAT return to HMRC is so simple and easy to do. I can't think of anything where it is 'less appropriate', but I have a lot of experience with SAP applications, which are horrendous. Sage Accounting is far superior.

We use Sage Accounting on a regular daily occurance. It helps me not only manage my own company and clients quickly and efficiently but also allows me to swiftly switch into another clients accounts should a query arise allowing me to be flexible and incredibly quick to react to new questions from my clients. I recommend Sage to any of my clients considering a new accounting package.
  • Client Management
  • Invoice Creation
  • Debtors management
  • Creditors management
  • Creating of Financial Statements
  • Filing of VAT Returns
  • Reminders for when to file a return
  • More reliable bank feed links, needs reauthorisation often
Sage Accounting is perfect for small to medium sized enterprises, it could be better for managing projects but I would expect to pay more for that service.

We use Sage to manage our invoices to customers and record supplier invoices as well as running VAT returns. The fact that I can do all of these jobs from my phone or laptop on the cloud is so much easier and enables me to work from home which I didn't have the option to do with previous versions of Sage
  • Online VAT returns
  • Reverse charge VAT
  • Easy invoicing
  • Editing data if mistakes are found
  • Customer support
  • Reconciling accounts
Ever since we made the switch to Sage Cloud Accounting it has been so much easier for me as a user, it enables me to create invoices when i'm not in the office or on holiday which enables us to get funds from our customers quicker and more efficiently.

Used for our day to day accounts or purchase's and sales. management accounts etc
  • Nothing
  • Everything is long winded, no fast key options
  • Basic options not available, you can not change payment terms for debtors or creditors only option is 30 days and statements do not break it down into pay periods
  • editing anything whether reconciled or not is painful
  • When data was carried over from Sage 50 accounts it was the basic info, all 490 customers accounts needed individually opening and statement preferences confirming, payment terms agreeing etc etc - no quick way to do all at once
  • Some nom codes have changed and some you are no longer able to use in Bank accounts purchases / sales etc. Some no-longer exist. this makes management accounts using the profit and lose data a nightmare
  • no favourites options for debtor / creditors lists and reports as there is only 1 option for all
This is probably suitable for anyone who is using a accounting package for the first time and only needs the basic requirements. It is definitely not suitable for anyone migrating over from Sage 50 Accounts as it doesn't do a fraction of what you could do before. The website is slow and looks like it was built for a child. It has caused no end of issues and wasted hours of time having to re-set everything up if it allows, as I said it it the most basic accounts package I have ever seen or used.

Sage One Accounting is one of a group of products that I've analyzed and implemented for some of my small business clients as appropriate. It is generally used organization wide and is intended to serve as a full functioning accounting system, inclusive of general ledger, A/P, A/R and payroll. It is generally appropriate for clients that meet certain criteria.
  • Connections to online financial accounts: Allows for real time updates of account balances.
  • Cloud access: Use anytime anywhere without the upkeep necessary when hosting the software on one's own servers.
  • Robust reporting: Excellent for viewing a business's metrics and performance in many different dimensions.
  • Time tracking: Functionality not present, so this would present a disadvantage in industries where billing requires this (ie. law, accounting firms, etc.)
  • Interface could be improved: It doesn't have as user friendly an interface and navigation as competitors in the same category. It is somewhat dated in this regard.
  • Inventory functionality could be more robust: Competitors have created stronger features in this area.
  • Report customization options: Not as strong as competitors.
Sage One seems to compete at the lower end of the spectrum in terms of the complexity of needs of a particular business that is selecting an accounting system. It would be OK in a scenario where a user has more of an accounting background due to the more dated "accountant like" interface. The product is suited for a good variety of industries in the small business size category. However, some features where the product is weak would not make it appropriate for a specific industry (ie. time tracking as previously noted). The product for some reason has a couple of advanced features that you normally see on a higher end product (ie. multi-currency, for example), so the product could've been improved if some intermediate features had been developed instead.

At Debrah Burleigh Accounting, my team is using Sage One in two ways. First some of my customers are using the invoicing aspect of the program to stay on top of their receivables and issue their own professional invoices. We import their information in to the Sage 50 where we do the rest of their bookkeeping for them. Secondly other customers are utilizing the full accounting software so they can better manage their finances and stay on top of their business rather than keeping receipts in a shoe box until year end. Whatever your business needs are it is an amazing program that my customers absolutely love and so do I it is easy to use and navigate through and easy for me to train my customers on.
  • The ability to log in to your accounting data anywhere you have internet. No sending backups to your accountant, no more trying to recover lost data, or having to log in to a server. This cloud hosted solution gives you a lot more freedom and flexibility as I can log in to it from any computer, or mobile device.
  • The ability to send professional invoices or quotes to my customers while still at their location. Also the ability to easily track my receivables and stay on top of them as they are always right at my fingertips.
  • Project tracking is a great feature. With this module you can send tasks associated with a project to your team without giving them access to your financial information. They can report to you where they are at on the project to help you stay on track. You can track the revenue and expenses associated with this project to make sure you are making a profit.
  • Bank integration brings in all the transactions and easily lets you allocate to the appropriate revenue and expense account or match to sales invoices or purchase invoices saving you time in data entry.
  • Sage One integrates with Sage Payment solutions or Paypal. By giving your customers more options to pay helping you stay on top of your receivables.
  • I love how it imports into the Sage 50 Accounting software for those customers who still need the features and functionality of the desktop software.
  • Just released the integration between Sage 50 and Sage One just got easier. The previous versions of Sage One and Sage 50 had the ability to download customer transactions from Sage One including invoicing, other income, bills, expenses, bank transfers and general journal entries to your Sage 50 accounting software.
  • With the latest update for Sage 50 you can now automatically upload and map your Sage 50 customer records, vendors, accounts, inventory items, and tax codes to Sage One for a quick, easy setup and perfect record match every time. This makes things so much easier when setting up new customers in Sage One
  • Now that important client information flows both ways, you can set up a new client in Sage One in minutes by accessing your Sage One connection wizard (under “file tab” in Sage 50 Accountants Edition) For the customers, vendors and accounts and products and services.
  • The other information such as Sales invoices and other income, Bills and other expenses, Bank Transfers, general journal entries flow from Sage One to Sage 50.
  • It is currently missing the payroll module to make it complete but is on the road map and should be released soon. I am anxiously awaiting this release as it would make this accounting program complete.
  • It will allow you to use products and services when invoicing but doesn't yet allow you to track quantity for your inventory but I believe that is also on the road map or you can always import your transactions in to Sage 50 where it will track your inventory for you.
The software is suited to many small business owners who want to track their sales and expenses in one location rather than having an invoicing program and tracking expenses on paper or Excel or not at all. This has so many easy to use features thus making a terrifying job for some so easy and seamless.

It is currently being used in our business by almost all of the workforce. We promote the product to our clients and provide training on the product as well. It has addressed many problems for many of our users, ranging from user friendliness to functionality by providing our clients with the ability to access their records from anywhere providing the client has internet connection.
  • Functionality - Can be accessed from anywhere using internet connection.
  • User Friendliness - We found that training our clients takes very little time and encourages use.
  • Bank Processing - The automatic bank feeds leaves little room for human error and assists in timely and accurate processing.
  • Inventory is becoming an issue when we draw reports for clients. Inventory reflects on the Statement of asset and liabilities report but not on the Trial Balance report.
Sage One Accounting is great - there are some improvements which could assist in making it an even better product, but it is a very brilliant product that gives you access wherever you are and is very easy to work with. We have had very few problems with the product and are very happy with the customer service we have received.

We use Sage One every day, it is used by a lot of our partners, as well as trainees. Many of our clients who have no or little accounting background, have found it very easy to adjust to using the program. The functionality and user friendliness of the program makes it a pleasure to work with. Also, the fact that it can be accessed from anywhere using an internet connection makes it even more convenient and has eliminated a lot of time management and on site consultation problems we have had in the past. There is no longer any need for us to drive out to the clients premises to provide assistance. Help is just a phone call and a click away.
  • The reporting functions in Sage One are particularly nifty and great for use in the presentation of financial information. The layouts are very well organised and the functionality and different options for using the reports are well thought out.
  • The Report designer makes it quick and easy to make amendments to the document design and to add/remove to the design specified to the client's needs.
  • The Quick View module and Dashboard module contribute to the user friendliness of the program which makes working with it even more of a pleasure. The required records/transactions have a very neat layout and the buttons are labelled very clearly.
  • The overall functionality and user friendliness of the program makes it very easy to use and contributes to quick training. This increases productivity and decreases time and costs spent to implement the product.
  • There are some reports which could be improved to further progress the presentation of financial information and assist management with important decisions.
  • There are some technical errors sometimes encountered - but these are usually internal(internet or lack of technological know how).
The program is appropriate for use in all business types - especially if the business has many different branches located in different parts of the country/world. The fact that invoicing can be done from a mobile device by use of the friendly Sage One app also makes it easy to quickly conclude a sales transaction by issuing an invoice at the client office - shortens time, leaving more time for business.

We currently use Sage One Accounting to keep track of all bills, expenses and wholesale client invoices. We also use the reporting features to look at past and present progress. The problem it solves is keeping all of these areas under one roof, easily manageable by and exportable for company use. It is being used by the billing department.
  • Seamless invoicing for wholesale clients
  • Easy to use tracking of bills and expenses
  • Vital reporting features to view the progress of the company
  • My only real complaint is the inability to void invoices. The only option is to delete them, which wouldn't allow us to look back and view them. Instead, I leave them as unpaid.
It is well suited for small companies and employees who aren't tech-savy. It's very easy to use.

Sage One is the accounting program we have just switched to. We run on Macs and the previous program we used only ran on PC's. The move over to Sage one was very easy for our office, and our accountant is very pleased with the ease as well.
  • The ability to access our account from an iPad or iPhone is huge. Being at my son's games, and able to work as well, makes it easier and much more enjoyable to be a working mother.
  • Creating and sending invoices is very easy, and looks professional.
  • Support is a click away, or even a phone call if you really want to speak directly to someone.
  • I would like to be able to run a report of all invoices that have been emailed, and how long ago they were sent.
  • I would also like to change what name is used from the contact when sending an invoice by email.
I have been more than happy with Sage One; it is easy, to the point and quick.
